Lead Pastor/Elder at Grace Community Church in Belle Plaine, IA

About the Church

Grace Community Church is a 10-year-old church plant in Belle Plaine, Iowa that was founded in response to a need for Gospel-centered biblical teaching. We are led by a team of 5 bi-vocational elders, 4 of whom have carried the responsibility of preaching for the length of GCC’s existence. The church family of GCC is young, with a large youth group and kids’ ministry, and has a major focus on raising up the next generation to know and serve Jesus. Our church is heavily mission-focused, and our tight-knit dynamic lends to many consistent events, both evangelistic and discipleship-focused, on a regular basis, such as potlucks, life groups, a yearly community cookout, and youth events. God has truly blessed us in the last 10 years with a church body that has a heart for contemporary worship, verse-by-verse Bible teaching, and prayer-dependent growth.  Our mission is to Know God, Grow in Christ, Sow the Gospel, and Go into the world (Know, Grow, Sow, Go).

About the Community

The community of Belle Plaine has roughly 2,300 people, just small enough to have that home-like, small-town feel but big enough for constant ministry opportunities. There are a lot of young families here, and there are always town events (many of them traditions) to attend. We have a decent-sized school system, a Christian academy that is owned by one of our elder’s wives, and plenty of parks, businesses, and eateries to support the growth of our local community. Valley View Village is an Elim facility. Elim is the Senior Living division of the Evangelical Free Church of America. Valley View is located on 16 acres on the East side of Des Moines, Iowa. We are a full spectrum of care facility including the following levels of care: Independent Living, Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing Care, Long Term Care, and Memory Care. There are approximately 350 residents and 150 staff that comprise the Valley View Village Retirement Community.

At Valley View Village we understand the vital role that spiritual health plays in the seasoned citizens of our community. In fact, this is of such importance that VVV, when fully staffed, will have three chaplains on staff. One full-time and two part-time. We have a female chaplain assistant for 8 hours a week and the second will be up to 22 hours/ week. The Lead Chaplain must be ordained in the Evangelical Free Church of America. As Chaplains here at VVV we are free to preach the Gospel, love this diverse bunch of people and sensitively lead others to Jesus as the only way of salvation.

Valley View Village originated in 1963 through the prayerful, visionary foresight of some Des Moines area pastors and Christian businessmen who saw the need for a home for seniors with a uniquely spiritual emphasis on the East Side of Des Moines. This same vision continues to the present day. Valley View is now affiliated with [Elim] Cassia Life, whose excellent mission statement is this: “to foster fullness of life for older adults in the spirit of Christ’s love.”

It is not our mission to promote our denomination. It is our mission to foster fullness of life for older adults in the spirit of Christ’s love. To that end Valley View provides many opportunities for spiritual enrichment and we are intentional about promoting the Gospel message as it is described in the Bible.

We have two traditional worship services during the week on Sunday and Wednesday mornings with 75-100 residents attending. In addition, there are prayer groups, a men’s group, and various Bible studies held weekly throughout our community. Our newly renovated and inviting chapel is the spiritual epicenter of the Valley View community. But the Church is not a building. The Church is we the people of God, from various denominations, who have surrendered our lives to Jesus the Messiah and seek to live for Him. Just one small fruit of this vibrant Christ-centered, mission-minded community is that from the generous financial support of residents, our chapel is supporting eight various mission organizations to the tune of $300/quarter.
