Church Planting Missionaries

What is a church planting missionary?

A Church Planting Missionary (CPM) is a staff member of the Central District-EFCA whose primary role is to develop new churches in his geographical area.

The CPM may actually be the "hands on" planter or he may coach an individual or a church already in the planting process. Either way, he is responsible to see that a healthy church is the goal of the people involved in the process and that the requirements are met so that the new church can potentially become a member church of the Central District and the EFCA.

The CPM is the resource person and should be the catalyst for starting new churches. He is asked by the District to begin only EFCA churches and that is the challenge he presents to the people involved very early in the process.

The CPM is always involved in prospecting for new church starts. He may talk to individuals, groups, and churches about potential locations and ideas for new churches. He may also talk to individuals or churches who desire to plant and then agree to serve as the coach for the planting process .

Once the CPM finds an opportunity to plant or coach a new church, he must work with the core group or leadership through the stages of approved project, approved church, and new church.

The Central District initially divided Iowa into three corridors determined by telephone area codes (West, Central, East). The Western corridor also incorporates the southeastern quarter of South Dakota. The South Central Corridor was added later and includes the counties on each side of the Iowa-Missouri border.  Another area to be developed will include Missouri and Arkansas.

Our Hispanic Ministries Missionary will help plant Hispanic churches as well as help existing churhces develop their own ministries to Hispanics.
